James Hines Obituary, Death – A tragic accident in southwest Charlotte on Wednesday, November 20, resulted in the death of James Hines, a 39-year-old pedestrian. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), Hines was walking on Old Pineville Road when he was struck by a vehicle shortly after 8 p.m.

The vehicle involved in the collision was identified as a 2000 Lexus RX300 driven by 45-year-old Tamika Smyre. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Hines dead at the scene.

Following the incident, Smyre was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, and possession of marijuana. She was taken to the Mecklenburg County jail but was released the next day after posting bail.

CMPD stated that speed did not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, but the circumstances highlight the dangers of impaired driving and the consequences it can have for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Hines’ death adds to a growing concern over pedestrian safety in the area.
