Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen Obituary, Death: South Sacramento 7-vehicle crash victim identified

Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the victim who died as a result of a seven-vehicle crash in South Sacramento that occurred on June 7. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased as 30-year-old Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen of Elk Grove.
The fatal incident stemmed from a domestic violence case reported nearly a week earlier. On June 1, Sacramento Police responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence on Farm Dale Way. The suspect in that case, 33-year-old Daniel Cunningham of Sacramento, had already fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
Fast forward to the morning of June 7, officers were once again dispatched to the same location around 10:15 a.m. This time, the woman involved in the initial domestic violence call requested a civil standby to collect her belongings from the home. Police say she had been assaulted by Cunningham during the June 1 incident.
According to Sacramento Police Officer Anthony Gamble, Cunningham was wanted on a new domestic violence charge and was also a parolee at large. Due to these factors, officers were obligated to arrest him. As officers attempted to apprehend Cunningham, he fled in a vehicle, leading police on a high-speed chase.
The pursuit ended tragically when Cunningham’s vehicle collided with multiple cars at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive. A total of seven vehicles were involved in the crash. Nguyen, who was inside one of the vehicles that Cunningham’s car struck, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Following the crash, Cunningham tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended with the help of police officers and a K9 unit. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. After receiving medical clearance, he was transferred to the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Cunningham is now facing multiple charges, including violation of parole, domestic violence, and felony evasion. The Sacramento Police Department has also asked the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to have its Major Accident Investigation Team conduct a detailed review of the crash. The goal is to determine whether additional charges should be filed in relation to the fatal collision.
In the aftermath of Nguyen’s death, his family has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral and memorial expenses. The page is open to donations from the public.
This tragic chain of events, beginning with a domestic violence incident and culminating in a fatal crash, has prompted renewed concerns over domestic violence and high-speed police chases. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and more details may be released as they become available.
