Harold Celestine, Marie Celestine Obituary, Death – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a family discovered deceased in a burning residence in Monrovia succumbed to a murder-suicide incident.
The victims have been identified as follows:
Harold Celestine, 46
Meliyah Celestine, 16
Marie Celestine, 49
It has been determined that Harold and Meliyah died from gunshot wounds inflicted by another, while Marie’s death has been classified as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The sheriff’s office indicated that forensic analysis revealed the fatal injuries were inflicted prior to the outbreak of the fire.
Sheriff Kevin Turner expressed, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragic event. Our hearts go out to those who are grieving, and we truly hope that they can find some sense of healing and closure in the days to come. The families and their loved ones remain in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Celestine family was found deceased within their home following the fire that occurred on January 7. Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill noted that all three individuals were believed to be family members residing at the location.
Subsequently, authorities initiated a death investigation. Berryhill stated that preliminary examinations had established the causes of death, but autopsies were conducted in Huntsville to verify these findings and ensure accurate identification of each individual.
In a statement regarding the delay in identification, the sheriff’s office noted, “The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office have submitted dental records for this purpose.”
Court documents indicate that Harold and Marie Celestine were involved in a bench trial concerning their divorce prior to the discovery of their bodies. The outcome of this trial remains undisclosed.
Witnesses at the scene reported that flames were emanating from the front door and rapidly spread to the second floor and attic. During the initial search of the home, Monrovia Fire & Rescue noted that the second floor collapsed, resulting in two fatalities.
