Authorities said a 911 call was received reporting the incident, and shortly afterward, a Massachusetts State Police trooper who happened to be nearby came upon the scene. The crash involved a single motorcycle and took place on the northbound side of Route 7, specifically at the intersection with Plunkett Street.
Upon arrival, first responders found the motorcyclist unconscious and in critical condition. Emergency personnel transported the victim by ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the rider’s condition remained grave.
On Wednesday, the victim succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as 49-year-old Gustavo Bernal of Lee, Massachusetts, as confirmed by Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Julia Sabourin.
The incident is currently under investigation to determine what factors may have led to the crash. Authorities have not released details regarding possible causes, such as speed, weather conditions, or mechanical issues with the motorcycle.
