Grace Wellman Obituary, Death News – Authorities have identified the woman who died following a crash involving an RV on Interstate 95 in the Pee Dee region.

Crash Details

According to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 11 a.m. near mile marker 164. A 2002 Ford Explorer and an RV, both traveling south, collided under unclear circumstances.

Following the crash, the RV caught fire, but emergency crews were able to extinguish the flames. Responders from both West Florence Fire Rescue and the Windy Hill Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist.

Victim Identified

One passenger in the RV succumbed to injuries from the crash. Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken later identified the victim as 79-year-old Grace Wellman of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The RV’s driver was not injured.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Their condition has not been disclosed.

Aftermath and Investigation

West Florence Fire Rescue reported that the RV driver and his two dogs were safely transported to a local hotel, where arrangements were made for temporary lodging.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Further details may be released as the investigation progresses.
