George Letts Obituary, Death – An inquiry was ongoing on Thursday regarding a rollover accident on Interstate 10 in Banning that resulted in the death of a senior citizen traveling in an SUV and left the driver with serious injuries. George Letts, aged 75, from Oro Valley, Arizona, sustained fatal injuries shortly after 6 a.m. on Tuesday while traveling eastbound on I-10, approximately half a mile east of Hargrave Street, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Jonathan Torres indicated that Letts was seated in the front passenger position of the Subaru Outback when the female driver seemingly lost control, leading the vehicle to veer onto the shoulder and overturn on an embankment adjacent to the perimeter of Banning Municipal Airport.

The SUV rolled down the embankment, damaging a power pole and ultimately coming to rest on its roof, according to Torres. Paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived at the scene 15 minutes later and declared Letts deceased at the location.

The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed but is known to be an Arizona resident, was rescued from the vehicle with significant injuries. She was transported to a regional trauma center, where she was receiving treatment as of Thursday.

No lanes on the freeway were closed following the incident.
