Farhana Nasir, Noor Nasir Obituary, Death; Third woman succumbs to injuries after Eustis, Maine boat crash.

Farhana Nasir, Noor Nasir Obituary, Death – A tragic boating accident on Flagstaff Lake in Eustis, Maine, has now claimed a third life, according to officials with the Maine Warden Service. Authorities confirmed Wednesday afternoon that 22-year-old Noor Nasir of Selden, New York, who had been hospitalized in critical condition since Saturday, died overnight from her injuries. Noor was among the seven passengers aboard the boat when it capsized.
Two other women, Farhana Nasir, 53, also of Selden, New York, and 23-year-old Kiran Akbar of Lake Grove, New York, died at the scene on Saturday when the accident first occurred.
On Monday, family friend Zeeshan Abbasi spoke about the tragedy, noting that doctors had warned the family that Noor’s chances of survival were extremely slim. Sadly, their fears were realized with her passing days later.
Investigators reported that the incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday when a 2024 18-foot Sea-Doo Switch pontoon boat began experiencing difficulties near the Cathedral Pines Campground. The boat’s bow suddenly dipped under the water. Despite attempts by the driver, a man from Eustis, to raise the bow, it continued sinking until the vessel flipped over. All seven passengers were thrown into the lake, approximately 180 feet from shore.
Some passengers became trapped under the overturned boat, making rescue efforts extremely difficult. Emergency crews responded within minutes, but challenges in medical response further complicated the situation.
Eustis Fire Chief Sprague Wise explained that while first responders acted swiftly, available ambulances equipped with advanced medical tools were already committed to other calls about 20 minutes away. As a result, it took close to an hour for properly equipped ambulances to arrive at the lake. Wise emphasized that having access to those resources sooner might have improved the outcome for at least one of the victims. “Definitely for the first patient, I believe there’s a high possibility things could be a little bit different,” Wise said. He added that while rescuers did all they could under extremely difficult circumstances, two of the victims had already been underwater for an extended period.
Officials stressed that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash, but the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to review the events that led to the sudden capsizing of the pontoon boat.
One critical factor highlighted by wardens was the lack of life jackets. They confirmed that none of the seven people aboard were wearing one at the time of the incident. Safety officials reiterated that life jackets remain one of the most effective tools in preventing drownings and reducing fatalities in boating accidents.
The deaths of three young women—two at the scene and one days later in the hospital—have left their families and community in shock. The incident also underscores the importance of boating safety practices, including the use of life jackets, and the challenges emergency responders face in rural areas where medical resources may not always be immediately available.
