Tesla Driver Killed After Green Hills Mall Robbery and I-65 Crash Identified
Emmanuel M. Easley Obituary, Death – The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has identified 30-year-old Emmanuel M. Easley as the driver involved in a robbery at Green Hills Mall that escalated into a fatal shooting and crash on Interstate 65 in Berry Hill on Tuesday afternoon. The chaotic sequence of events led to significant traffic disruptions and a criminal investigation that continues to unfold.
According to MNPD, the incident began when a yet-to-be-identified shopper carrying Louis Vuitton bags was walking to his car in the mall parking lot. Easley and 30-year-old Omari Moore reportedly spotted the shopper, with Moore exiting the vehicle armed with a pistol featuring an extended magazine. Moore allegedly wrestled the bags away from the shopper and fled back to the Tesla, where he assumed the passenger seat as Easley drove off.
The shopper, undeterred, chased the suspects and appeared to throw the extended gun magazine at the vehicle as it sped away. Police later recovered the magazine and two spent shell casings from the parking lot, indicating that shots had been fired during the chaotic scene.
MNPD reports that shortly after fleeing the mall, Easley lost control of the Tesla and crashed into a tree near the I-65 North entrance ramp from Interstate 440. The crash left Easley fatally wounded, though it remains unclear at what point he was shot during the incident.
After the crash, Moore exited the vehicle and made his way toward a nearby guardrail. Officers later recovered a pistol missing its magazine near the area where Moore had been. When questioned by police, Moore claimed to be unaware of how or when Easley was shot. Authorities have not confirmed whether the gunfire occurred during the robbery or in a subsequent exchange.
As the investigation continues, police are urging the robbery victim to come forward for an interview to provide crucial details about the incident. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to Easley’s death and are exploring the possibility of other parties being involved.
Late Tuesday night, MNPD announced that Moore had been charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. According to police, Moore has a history of criminal offenses. In 2022, he was convicted in Nashville for burglary and felony theft, receiving a two-year sentence. He also has prior convictions for felony theft and evading arrest in Henderson County.
Authorities are now focused on gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full circumstances surrounding the robbery, shooting, and crash. Easley’s death has added a tragic dimension to the case, raising questions about the involvement of gunfire and whether the robbery suspects exchanged shots with anyone at the scene or afterward.
The incident underscores the dangers of criminal activities escalating into public safety crises, particularly in high-traffic areas like Green Hills Mall and major highways. Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in the investigation.
As MNPD continues its probe, community members and law enforcement alike are calling for justice in the aftermath of this violent incident. The department remains hopeful that additional information will come to light, particularly with the cooperation of the robbery victim and any other witnesses who may have observed the unfolding events.
The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement when incidents of armed robbery spill into public spaces, endangering innocent lives and causing widespread disruptions. Authorities have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In the meantime, MNPD has emphasized the importance of public cooperation and has urged anyone with information to come forward. The department remains committed to resolving the case and providing answers to Easley’s family and the community affected by the tragic series of events.
