Emma Schultheis Obituary, Death – A 14-year-old girl was tragically killed in a shooting incident currently under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. The incident occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025, at a home located at 5925 State Route 3 in Waterloo, Illinois.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1:34 p.m. for what was initially described as a medical emergency involving a juvenile. Responders from Monroe County EMS and a sheriff’s deputy arrived quickly and began performing CPR on the victim. Despite their life-saving efforts, the girl, later identified as Emma Schultheis from Prairie Du Rocher, could not be revived. She was transported to a hospital in the St. Louis area, where she was officially pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that Schultheis died from a gunshot wound. A firearm was located at the scene and secured by investigators. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted in processing evidence from the location to support the ongoing investigation.
At this time, the sheriff’s office stated that there are no suspects on the loose and no immediate threat to the surrounding community. While the investigation continues, officials are urging the public to avoid spreading rumors or unverified information, as doing so may interfere with the investigation and potentially cause more distress to those affected.
Sergeant Justin Biggs, leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle the facts of the case responsibly and with care. The sheriff’s department said more information will be released when the investigation is complete.
