Douglas Ivers Obituary, Death – The Portland Police Bureau has released the identity of the man who was fatally shot in downtown Portland on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 1. At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street. When they arrived on the scene, they found 50-year-old Douglas Ivers of Portland suffering from a gunshot wound.
Bystander video obtained by FOX 12 showed people attempting to help Ivers in the moments following the shooting. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries. The Oregon State Medical Examiner later confirmed that Ivers died as a result of a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
Shortly after the shooting occurred, police arrested 26-year-old Hassan M. Muse. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and is facing charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances of the shooting, including any possible motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
The Portland Police Bureau stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
