The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) confirmed the incident occurred near milepost 144 just before 10 p.m.
Details of the Crash
According to investigators, a southbound Toyota Rav4 collided with a disabled GMC that was stationary in the right lane of the highway. The Toyota’s driver reportedly failed to maintain a safe following distance, leading to the collision. Chambers, who was behind the wheel of the GMC, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital in Akron. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Authorities confirmed that Chambers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Condition of the Toyota Driver
The driver of the Toyota Rav4 sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Initial investigations by OSHP revealed no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment as contributing factors in the accident.
