Devin Lewis Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the individual killed in an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Springfield early Thursday morning. The incident took place following a 911 call made around 1 a.m. from the 0-100 block of Lyman Street. The call led to a police response where 24-year-old Devin Lewis, a Springfield resident, was found outside an apartment building holding two guns.
According to Elijah Ayers, a spokesperson for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the officers who arrived on the scene were confronted with Lewis, who was at the entrance of the building. Due to the circumstances, which are still under investigation, two officers discharged their firearms. One of the officers struck Lewis, who was then provided with immediate medical assistance at the scene. Despite the efforts to save him, Lewis was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the incident is being conducted by both the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Springfield Police Department. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the events leading up to the shooting as they continue to gather information.
