Derron Woody’s father, Derrick Woody, spoke about the devastating moment he learned of his son’s death. In an emotional interview, he recalled being at work when he received a frantic call informing him that his son had been shot.

“They said he was laying in front of the door. I asked, ‘What’s wrong with him?’ And they said, ‘He’s not getting up, he’s not moving. He’s bleeding from the mouth,’” Woody recounted.

Struggling to process the loss, the grieving father described his son as a loving child with a kind heart. “Just hard to think about it right now, you know,” he said. “I loved my son. He loved everybody. He wasn’t no bad boy.”

Derron was not only a student at DeKalb Alternative School but also an avid gamer who loved playing on his PS5. His family described him as the “ultimate gamer,” highlighting his passion for video games outside of school.

In the wake of his tragic death, Derron’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for funeral expenses. Community members who wish to support the family during this difficult time are encouraged to contribute.
