Dennis J. Dawson Obituary, Death Cause – A fatal accident involving a pedestrian occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County, approximately four miles east of El Paso.
Authorities report that the crash happened around 4:58 a.m. A 2013 Nissan Versa, driven by 67-year-old Dennis J. Dawson of Buena Park, California, was heading westbound on the highway near mile marker 66 when the incident occurred.
According to investigators, the pedestrian, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Joseph Schall of Marana, Florida, was lying on the roadway when he was struck by Dawson’s vehicle. The reason Schall was on the road remains unclear.
Following the collision, Dawson’s car came to a stop in the center median of the interstate and was left immobilized. No injuries were reported for Dawson, and he did not require medical treatment at the scene.
Emergency personnel pronounced Schall dead at the scene of the crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation into the incident. At this time, authorities have not released further information regarding why Schall was lying on the road or whether any contributing factors have been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
