David Joseph Moreno Obituary, Death: Troopers Conclude Search for Information in Fatal I-85 Crash

David Joseph Moreno Obituary, Death – The South Carolina Highway Patrol has announced that it is no longer seeking information from the public regarding a deadly crash that occurred early Tuesday morning on I-85. The incident took place shortly after midnight, in the northbound lanes near mile marker 59, within Spartanburg County.
Initial reports from the Highway Patrol indicated that a moped and a Volkswagen Tiquan SUV were both traveling north when the SUV collided with the moped. Tragically, the rider of the moped was killed instantly.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 35-year-old David Joseph Moreno from Greenwood. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Initially, the South Carolina Highway Patrol had labeled the crash as a hit-and-run, suggesting that the responsible vehicle had fled the scene. However, by Wednesday morning, authorities corrected their statement, clarifying that it was not a hit-and-run incident. They explained that five vehicles had struck the moped or its rider after the initial collision, but all five vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
This update clarified the situation, and as a result, the Highway Patrol stated that it was no longer actively seeking additional information from the public. The incident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
