David Cullen Jr Obituary, Death – The Allen County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Thursday morning at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and State Boulevard in Fort Wayne. The man, later identified as 46-year-old David Cullen Jr. of Fort Wayne, was struck by a vehicle around 6:15 a.m.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and State Boulevard was temporarily closed for the investigation. The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) confirmed that the driver involved in the accident is cooperating with authorities. According to the FWPD, the crash occurred as a TRAA ambulance was approaching the intersection. Immediate medical attention was provided to Cullen, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports from the police indicated that the victim was in a wheelchair at the time of the incident. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses as well as dashcam video from the ambulance to gather more details. Based on the evidence, authorities have ruled out speeding as a factor in the crash.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team, along with the Allen County Coroner’s Office, has been assisting with the investigation. The area was closed off during the investigation but has since been reopened.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the victim and provided additional details. Cullen’s death was attributed to blunt force trauma caused by the motor vehicle collision, and the manner of death was ruled an accident. This incident marks the 40th motor vehicle fatality in Allen County for the year 2024.
Authorities from the FWPD, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
