Daryl Ware Jr Obituary, Death – The Shreveport Police Department is cautioning residents about the dangers of walking on or attempting to cross the interstate. Already in 2025, three pedestrians have been killed in such incidents.

Daryl Ware Jr. – March 1 Tragedy

One of the victims was 31-year-old Daryl Ware Jr., a former mayoral candidate in Shreveport. The accident occurred on March 1 at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Interstate 20 East, between West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Pines Road. According to authorities, an 18-wheeler was traveling in the inside lane when the driver struck something. Realizing the impact, the driver pulled over onto the shoulder. Officers arriving at the scene discovered an unconscious man who was not breathing. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, the coroner was ultimately called to the scene, confirming Ware’s death.

Remembering Daryl Ware Jr.

Ware was a well-known figure in the community, recognized for making history as the youngest candidate to run for mayor of Shreveport in 2022 at just 29 years old. His educational background was extensive—he earned a degree from Louisiana Tech University and later completed a master’s in public health, specializing in infectious disease epidemiology at Cornell University. Ware’s commitment to public service and civic engagement was well-respected.

On March 3, the Shreveport City Council released an official statement expressing their condolences to Ware’s family and honoring his contributions to the community.

Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor, who represented the district where Ware lived, shared her sorrow:
“Darryl had a heart for Shreveport and a passion for making a difference. His drive and determination to be a voice for the community were admirable. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

Council Vice Chairwoman Ursula Bowman also spoke on his passing:
“This is a tragic loss for our community. Darryl was a young man with vision and ambition, and his presence will be missed. We pray for his loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking time.”

The City Council urged residents to keep Ware’s family in their thoughts as they mourn his untimely death.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

Preliminary investigations suggest that Ware may have stepped into the path of the semi-truck before the collision occurred. Authorities have stated that the truck driver did not appear to be impaired at the time, though a toxicology sample was taken as part of standard procedure.

This incident, along with two other pedestrian fatalities on Shreveport’s interstate this year, has prompted police to stress the importance of pedestrian safety and to remind the public of the severe risks associated with walking along or crossing highways.
