Darrel Freeman Obituary, Death: Man struck and killed by train in Logan County
Darrel Freeman Obituary, Death – A man from Logan County has died after being struck by a train in an incident that occurred Tuesday night. The Logan County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 42-year-old Darrel “Ace” Freeman, a resident of Chapmanville. Authorities reported that the tragic event happened near the Logan County Country Club on the CSX railway line at approximately 10 p.m.
Footage from the train’s forward-facing camera shows Freeman walking on the tracks as the train approached. The train’s engineer reportedly sounded the horn several times in an attempt to warn Freeman of the oncoming train and engaged the emergency brakes in a desperate effort to prevent a collision. Despite these efforts, Freeman did not appear to respond to the horn’s warnings or move off the tracks, resulting in the fatal impact.
Investigators have not determined why Freeman failed to react to the train’s horn or warning signals. CSX, the company that owns the railway, is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. However, the Logan County Sheriff’s Department has indicated that there is no evidence of foul play in Freeman’s death. Further details have not yet been provided, and the investigation remains ongoing.
