Darius Wong Obituary, Death: 43-year-old man named as second victim in Baldwin Park shooting.

Darius Wong Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified a second victim in a tragic shooting incident that took place in Baldwin Park over the weekend, an event that also resulted in the death of a police officer. The man killed shortly before the officer was shot has been named as 43-year-old Darius Wong.

According to officials, the suspect in the double homicide is 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen. He is accused of fatally shooting both Wong and Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros during a violent confrontation on Saturday evening.

Investigators are still working to determine an exact motive behind the shooting. However, accounts from family members suggest the chain of events may have begun when Wong dropped off his wife and children at a nearby gathering and then left to search for a parking space in the neighborhood.

Surveillance footage reviewed by authorities shows Wong walking along Palm Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. He disappears from the camera’s view as he turns onto Filhurst Avenue. Roughly two minutes after he’s out of frame, the sound of four gunshots can be heard.

One resident, Tamara Ayala, who lives near the scene, said the sound startled her family. “We just heard three loud noises. We didn’t realize it was gunfire at first,” she explained. “We checked our security camera, and then my mom stepped outside. That’s when we saw him lying on the ground.”

Neighbors told reporters from Eyewitness News that the incident may have stemmed from a dispute over a parking space. Esther, a resident in the area, shared that a housewarming party was taking place on the block, hosted by some new neighbors. According to her, the suspect came outside and confronted someone about parking in a certain spot. “He told the guy not to park there,” she said. “But the guy did anyway, and that seems to have sparked everything.”

Despite those reports, Wong’s family insists that he had no involvement in the disagreement and was simply caught in the chaos that followed. He was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Footage from Ring security cameras obtained by ABC7 captured more than a dozen gunshots over the span of about ten seconds. In one of the videos, Wong is seen running for his life before being fatally shot. Neighbor Norma Lemus recounted what she saw: “He ran through the middle of the street and collapsed right over there. By the time I got close, he was already on the ground.”

The situation escalated quickly as police arrived at the scene and engaged the shooter in a gunfire exchange. In the midst of the confrontation, Officer Samuel Riveros was struck and killed. Another officer, Anthony Pimentel, was also wounded but has since been treated and released from the hospital.

Officer Riveros had served with the Baldwin Park Police Department since 2016. His death sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community and the city at large. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger ordered all flags at county buildings to be lowered to half-staff.

The sidewalk where Darius Wong collapsed has since become a memorial site, with flowers and tributes placed in his honor. Both he and Officer Riveros are being remembered by their loved ones and the community, who are grappling with the violence that unfolded in what is typically a quiet residential area.

The suspect, Medina-Berumen, is currently in custody and is expected to face two murder charges, one for each of the lives lost that evening. Investigators are continuing to piece together all of the evidence, including reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, to build a full picture of what led to the tragic events.

As the Baldwin Park community mourns, a vigil is planned for Friday evening at the Baldwin Park Police Department to honor the life and service of Officer Riveros. The gathering is expected to draw fellow officers, city officials, and residents alike, all coming together to pay tribute to a fallen hero.

Meanwhile, Darius Wong’s family is left coping with a senseless loss. Known as a loving husband and father, he had simply been out looking for a place to park when he encountered violence. Those who knew him describe him as a kind and hardworking man, completely uninvolved in any neighborhood conflict.

The dual tragedies of Wong and Officer Riveros have left a deep scar on Baldwin Park, sparking conversations about safety, violence, and the unpredictable nature of such confrontations. As the legal process moves forward and the investigation continues, the community is united in grief and in the hope that justice will be served.

In the days ahead, both families will lay their loved ones to rest and try to find peace in the aftermath of this shocking loss. Baldwin Park, still reeling, is rallying around them with prayers, tributes, and a commitment to remembering the lives that were taken far too soon.
