Darius Edwards Obituary, Death – A tragic hit-and-run crash in Eunice claimed the life of a 25-year-old man riding a motorized scooter, prompting an investigation that led to the arrest of the driver involved. The incident occurred on Friday, December 13, just before 5:30 p.m., on South Aymond Street (LA 13).
Eunice police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a collision. Upon arrival, they found Darius Edwards, the victim, lying unresponsive in the roadway. Bystanders were performing CPR on Edwards when officers arrived. The officers immediately took over life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel from the Eunice Fire Department and EMS arrived.
According to witness accounts, Edwards had been traveling northbound in the center turn lane on his electric motorized scooter. At the same time, a gray SUV heading southbound struck him while speeding and passing vehicles in the center turn lane. Witnesses reported that after the collision, the vehicle stopped briefly for 10 to 15 seconds before fleeing the scene, continuing southbound on South Aymond Street.
Edwards was rushed to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save his life.
Eunice police launched an investigation into the crash. Evidence collected from the scene, combined with tips from anonymous sources, helped officers identify and locate the vehicle and its driver. While the identity of the driver has not been publicly disclosed, authorities confirmed that the individual has been taken into custody. Charges against the driver are pending further investigation.
