Cheryl Bottorff Obituary, Death – A 67-year-old woman was identified as the victim of a deadly house fire in Central City, Somerset County. The coroner confirmed that Cheryl Bottorff perished in the early morning blaze that engulfed her Lohr Street home on Tuesday. Firefighters from seven departments responded around 1:15 a.m., battling the flames throughout the night. However, due to the collapse of the roof and upper floors, it took several hours before her body was discovered.
Deputy Chief Don Beltz of the Central City Volunteer Fire Department stated that crews faced significant challenges locating Bottorff amidst the wreckage. Alexis Lichty, the chief deputy coroner, pronounced her dead at the scene at 8:06 a.m. An autopsy has been conducted, but the official cause and manner of death are awaiting further test results.
According to county property records, the home was owned by Bottorff and her late husband, Tommy, who passed away in February 2023. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, along with local fire officials, is still investigating what caused the fire.
