The incident has shocked the community and prompted an outpouring of grief from school officials, religious leaders, and residents alike.

According to the Waterbury Police Department, officers responded to a call just before 3 a.m. on Willow Street, where they found Fox outside with a gunshot wound. Waterbury Superintendent Dr. Darren Schwartz expressed deep sorrow in a statement to the school community, confirming Fox was a student at Enlightenment School. “It is with profound sadness that I share the tragic loss of one of our students,” he wrote. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. Please join me in thoughts and prayers as we work through this difficult time together.”

The tragedy struck a chord across the city, including at La Iglesia Del Dios Viviente, a church located just across the street from where the shooting happened. Joselyn Jiminez, a leader at the church, was preparing a community breakfast Friday morning when she heard about the incident. She said the shooting deeply affected those who knew Carizma personally.

“One girl came here, and she was crying,” Jiminez recalled. “She told me, ‘I had spoken to her yesterday,’ and she was sad.” Jiminez lamented the growing violence in the area, particularly involving young people, saying, “It’s too young. You know, it’s sad what is happening here in this city.”
