The collision, which took place on U.S. 24 near Rice Lake, involved an SUV and a pickup truck.

The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Carina L. Kapraun from Astoria, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Kapraun’s vehicle was struck when the pickup truck crossed the center line and into the path of oncoming traffic. Emergency responders confirmed her death at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 55-year-old Kyle Kunkle from Humble, Texas. Kunkle was transported to Graham Hospital in Canton, where he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fulton County Coroner’s office, which is working to determine the exact cause and sequence of events that led to this fatal collision. Illinois State Police have provided some preliminary details, stating that Kunkle’s pickup truck was driving eastbound on U.S. 24 just west of Brown Road when it suddenly crossed the center line, entering into the path of westbound traffic. This led to the head-on crash with Kapraun’s SUV.
