Bryan Mena Obituary, Death – The Bucks County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who tragically died in an industrial accident early Monday at the international port in Falls Township. The victim, Bryan Mena, 26, from Bristol Borough, was killed while working at the Kinder Morgan-operated port. Coroner Patti Campi confirmed Mena’s identity on Tuesday, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Firefighters, medics, and police responded to the scene at around 1:15 a.m. on Monday. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) were also notified of the accident. According to police reports, Mena was struck by a digging bucket that was being used to excavate sugar from the hull of a docked ship.
While the specific ship involved in the incident has not been confirmed, records indicate that two bulk carriers, the 590-foot-long Ricarda and the 620-foot-long Genco Picardy, were docked at the port at the time of the accident.
OSHA has since launched an investigation into the incident. Lenore Uddyback-Fortson, an OSHA spokesperson, confirmed that the agency is looking into the accident and expects to release findings within the next six months.
In response to the tragedy, Kinder Morgan, the company operating the port, issued a statement expressing condolences to Mena’s family and the company’s employees. The statement read, “Our thoughts are with the employee’s family and our employees following this event. The incident is under investigation. There are no ongoing impacts to operations.”
The death of Mena has left the local community in mourning, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident.
