Brent Nicklas Obituary, Death – On May 14, a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of East Boulder Street and North Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified the victim as 49-year-old Brent Nicklas.

Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:05 a.m. following reports of the collision. Due to the severity of the crash, the department’s Major Crash Team was called in to take over the investigation and analyze the circumstances leading up to the incident.

According to the investigation, one of the vehicles involved was traveling southbound on North Academy Boulevard in the left through lane. The other vehicle was traveling eastbound on East Boulder Street and was making a left turn onto North Academy Boulevard, heading north.

As the southbound vehicle entered the intersection, it struck the driver’s side door of the eastbound vehicle that was turning left. The collision caused significant damage, leading to the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles becoming trapped and requiring extraction by emergency responders.

Both occupants were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, Brent Nicklas, the driver, succumbed to his injuries while receiving care.

This crash marks the 13th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs in 2025. For comparison, the city recorded 19 traffic fatalities at the same point in 2024. Over the past year, a total of 43 traffic-related deaths have been reported in the Colorado Springs area.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine its full cause and circumstances. The community mourns the loss of Brent Nicklas, and officials emphasize the importance of road safety as they work to prevent future tragedies.
