The incident occurred Saturday night and involved multiple vehicles. Initially, Mygal was incorrectly reported as being from Niles, but officials from the Lake County Coroner’s Office later confirmed her correct residence.
The crash took place around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of West Russell Road and Frontage Road. Responding to the scene, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office determined that a 2020 Porsche Macan, driven by a 58-year-old man from Addison, was heading west on Russell Road at high speed. The driver reportedly ignored a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Volt.
The collision was so forceful that the Chevrolet was pushed into a nearby 2020 Mercedes-Benz. Mygal was a passenger in the Chevrolet at the time of the crash. Emergency crews worked to extricate her from the severely damaged vehicle and transported her to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Also in the Chevrolet were a 35-year-old male driver and a 4-year-old girl, both of whom suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Mercedes, which became involved as a result of the initial impact, was occupied by a 37-year-old woman behind the wheel and a 40-year-old male passenger. Both individuals were also taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.
The driver of the Porsche sustained serious injuries as well and was hospitalized. Authorities suspect that both excessive speed and alcohol played roles in the crash. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that criminal charges against the Porsche driver are anticipated, though none had been officially announced at the time of the report.
Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The intersection where the crash occurred was closed for several hours Saturday night as authorities worked the scene and gathered evidence.
