Bernard Anthony Oliver Evans Jr. Obituary, Death – A Winston-Salem man tragically died on Monday after crashing during a high-speed chase with state troopers. The incident began around 9:13 a.m. when a North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer spotted a white Audi SUV traveling at 91 mph in a 65-mph zone on I-40 West.

When the trooper activated their lights and siren, the driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit. The chase continued as the driver exited the interstate onto Sandy Ridge Road and then onto West Market Street, heading west.

While on West Market Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. The SUV struck a tree and then a utility pole.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Bernard Anthony Oliver Evans Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation by the Highway Patrol revealed that Evans was in possession of a significant quantity of illegal narcotics and a stolen handgun at the time of the crash.

No additional details have been released yet as the investigation is ongoing.
