Antwan Bluthenthal Obituary, Death; Man shot and killed after Gaslamp rooftop bar visit identified by authorities.

Antwan Bluthenthal Obituary, Death – Authorities have released the identity of a man who was shot and killed last weekend inside a building in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter after visiting a rooftop bar located in the same complex.

The San Diego Police Department reported that officers were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday following reports of gunfire. When they arrived at 701 Sixth Avenue, they discovered 46-year-old Antwan Bluthenthal suffering from fatal gunshot wounds in a third-floor hallway. Despite emergency response efforts, Bluthenthal was pronounced dead at the scene, according to SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi.

At the time of the incident, several bystanders were found on the sidewalk outside the building, restraining 37-year-old Bryan Tyner, who they identified as the alleged shooter. They also pointed officers to a handgun that had reportedly been taken from Tyner. Police arrested Tyner on suspicion of murder, and he was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Investigators determined that both the suspect and the victim had visited the Cielo Rooftop Lounge, located on the fifth floor of the building. Access to the lounge is via an elevator from the third floor—the same level where the shooting occurred. Lt. Maggi explained that the third floor also contains a comedy club, which was not in operation at the time of the shooting. The reason for the fatal encounter remains unknown, as police have not disclosed a motive.

The building where the incident took place is a multi-use facility that formerly operated as the Theatre Box. It now houses a variety of businesses, including restaurants and the Cielo Rooftop Lounge.

In response to the tragedy, the management of Cielo Rooftop Lounge issued a public statement via Instagram. While clarifying that the shooting did not happen within their establishment, they expressed sympathy for those affected by the incident. The lounge also emphasized their commitment to safety and their cooperation with law enforcement.

“Though not directly involved, we recognize our responsibility as part of this building community,” the statement read. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and will continue working with authorities to ensure everyone’s safety.”

The San Diego Police Department continues to investigate the incident, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to piece together the chain of events leading up to the shooting. No additional suspects are being sought at this time, and officials have not released further details about any prior connection or altercation between Bluthenthal and Tyner.

This shooting has raised concerns about security in the popular downtown entertainment area. Community members and business owners are hoping for answers as the investigation unfolds and are looking for reassurance that similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
