The incident took place at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Thoreau Drive, where the young girl, identified as Angela Guan, was struck while walking. According to police, Guan was seriously injured in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics from the Schaumburg Fire Department. Despite efforts to save her, she later succumbed to her injuries. Three bystanders who witnessed the accident immediately provided medical assistance before paramedics arrived to take over.
The accident occurred around 5:08 p.m. when police responded to reports of a single vehicle collision. Initial investigations, including statements from independent witnesses, suggest that the 65-year-old driver from Cicero was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road when he had a green traffic light. At that moment, Guan entered the roadway. Police stated that she was walking northbound against the crosswalk signal at the time of the collision.
