According to police, Guan was seriously injured in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics from the Schaumburg Fire Department. Despite efforts to save her, she later succumbed to her injuries. Three bystanders who witnessed the accident immediately provided medical assistance before paramedics arrived to take over.
The accident occurred around 5:08 p.m. when police responded to reports of a single vehicle collision. At that moment, Guan entered the roadway. Police stated that she was walking northbound against the crosswalk signal at the time of the collision.
