Alonzo Ocaranza Obituary, Death – Authorities in Sonoma County have identified the person who died in a boat capsizing near Bodega Bay on Monday, marking the latest in a series of deadly incidents in the area this month.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office reported that they received a distress call at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday regarding boaters in trouble near Salmon Creek. The vessel involved, the Achelous, capsized with five people aboard before running aground at North Salmon Creek Beach. While four of the boaters were rescued and transported to a hospital, one person was confirmed dead.
The deceased has been identified as 69-year-old Alonzo Ocaranza from Turlock, California, according to the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released at this time.
This tragic event is part of a concerning trend of boat accidents in the region. Just a few weeks earlier, two other boat capsizings occurred in the area. On November 2, a crabbing boat capsized in Bodega Bay with six people on board, including three adults and three teenagers. In that case, one individual was found dead, another person was rescued, and four others were initially reported missing.
Two days later, another boat capsized off Bodega Head. Rescue crews recovered one victim from the water and attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the individual did not survive.
These recent incidents have raised concerns about safety on the water in the area, with authorities continuing to investigate the causes behind these fatal capsizings.
