As Tibbetts attempted to pass the turning vehicle, he entered the southbound lane, where he collided head-on with a silver 2007 Volvo Station Wagon. The Volvo was being driven by 70-year-old Allen H. Millett of Damariscotta, who was traveling south at the time.
The impact of the crash resulted in Millett’s death, with officials confirming that he was the only occupant of the Volvo. Tibbetts, who was also the sole occupant of his vehicle, was transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The crash occurred with Millett not wearing a seatbelt, while Tibbetts was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Millett’s death.
