Alejandro “El Potrillo” Castillo Andrade Obituary, Death – A tragic accident in Calera over the weekend claimed the life of Alejandro “El Potrillo” Castillo Andrade, a well-known radio personality in Alabama’s Spanish-speaking community. The Shelby County Coroner, Lina Evans, confirmed that Castillo, 34, was the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.
Castillo, a Montevallo resident, was a cherished figure in local radio. He was formerly associated with El Jefe Radio and later founded La Chula 97.5, a Spanish-language radio station in Shelby County. Beyond radio, Castillo was active in the community, frequently serving as an emcee for various local events. Following his passing, La Chula 97.5 posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing their sorrow over the loss.
The accident occurred just after 6 a.m. on County Road 12 in Calera. When officers arrived, they found Castillo had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities, including the Calera Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit, the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force, and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Castillo leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and two young daughters, as well as a community that admired his contributions to radio and local events.
