Abdiwali Isaak Obituary, Death: Columbus police searching for leads in shooting that left 1 dead, 2 injured

Abdiwali Isaak Obituary, Death – Columbus police homicide detectives are actively investigating a deadly shooting that occurred on the city’s southwest side and are asking the public for help in gathering more information.

Authorities said officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Avonia Drive shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered three individuals who had been shot.

Emergency medical teams from Columbus, Franklin Township, and Prairie Township fire departments responded quickly and transported all three victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Tragically, one of the victims, identified as 18-year-old Abdiwali Isaak, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. His death is now being investigated as a homicide.

The other two victims—one an adult and the other a juvenile—survived the shooting but remain hospitalized. Their current medical conditions have not been released, and authorities have not yet provided their names.

At this time, investigators are working to piece together the events that led up to the shooting. They have not identified any suspects or determined a clear motive. Detectives are reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, but the investigation is still in its early stages.

As part of their efforts, Columbus police are asking residents in the area to come forward with any information that might assist in solving the case. In particular, investigators are requesting access to any video footage recorded between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on June 28, 2025. This includes home surveillance systems, doorbell cameras, and vehicle dashcams that may have captured activity in the neighborhood during the time of the incident.

A QR code was shared by the department to streamline the process for submitting videos, though details on accessing it were not included in the report. Detectives hope that surveillance footage may reveal clues about the individuals involved, including whether a suspect fled the scene or if any suspicious activity occurred leading up to the shooting.

Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random, and they have not said if the victims knew each other or the shooter. Authorities are asking community members to remain alert and report any relevant details to help move the investigation forward.

This shooting adds to the growing concerns about gun violence in Columbus, especially involving young victims. Community leaders and law enforcement continue to urge residents to speak out and help prevent further tragedies.

As the case develops, Columbus police will provide updates when new information becomes available. For now, they are focused on gathering leads, reviewing evidence, and seeking justice for Abdiwali Isaak and the two other individuals who were injured in the shooting on Avonia Drive.
