Hugo Urbano Chavez Obituary, Death: 22-year-old driver dies after high-speed chase with GSP on I-75 at 114 mph.
Hugo Urbano Chavez Obituary, Death – A Georgia man died in a crash following a high-speed chase with the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) on Tuesday night. The incident began around 8:12 p.m. when a GSP trooper was monitoring speed on Interstate 75 northbound near mile marker 342 in Catoosa County.
The trooper clocked a black 2015 Infiniti Q50 traveling at 114 miles per hour, significantly over the speed limit. The trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, 22-year-old Hugo Urbano Chavez of Dalton, ignored the request and continued driving, sparking a high-speed pursuit on I-75.
As Chavez approached exit 348, he attempted to pass another vehicle on the left shoulder. However, he lost control of his car, which crossed all northbound lanes, flipped, and ultimately came to a stop between the northbound lanes and the exit ramp. The trooper’s vehicle also veered off the road during the chase, hitting the guardrail in the median, crossing the northbound lanes, and coming to a stop on the exit ramp. Fortunately, there was no contact between the trooper’s vehicle and Chavez’s car.
Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, 30-year-old Angel Aleman, also from Dalton, was taken to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with serious injuries. The crash is still under investigation by the GSP.
