JOHNSTOWN, Pa, Officials identify Greater Johnstown student fatally shot by another teen
Officials in Cambria County have identified 17-year-old Syrina Raneri as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night at a home on Sheridan Street in Johnstown. Raneri, a senior at Greater Johnstown High School, was shot once in the upper chest while in the basement of the residence, according to County Coroner Jeff Lees.
Investigators allege that another teenager, 17-year-old Kaden Woodring, pointed a rifle at Raneri and pulled the trigger. Witnesses reported that Woodring fled the scene before police arrived but was later apprehended after speaking with an officer over the phone.
During questioning, authorities learned that the rifle used in the shooting had allegedly been stolen and was provided to Woodring by another juvenile. The weapon has not yet been recovered, according to County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Neugebauer noted that while the incident might have been accidental, no definitive conclusions have been drawn at this time.
Woodring is being charged as an adult and faces multiple serious charges, including criminal homicide and several counts of aggravated assault. He is currently in custody.
In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to honor Syrina Raneri’s memory, reflecting the profound loss felt by her family, friends, and the Greater Johnstown community. Investigators continue to work on the case, seeking answers and justice for the young life lost.
