Michelle Donato Obituary, Death – Kansas City police are investigating a shooting incident that left one woman dead and another injured after a large altercation escalated Monday night.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:25 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Bluff Drive. Upon arrival, witnesses informed them that two individuals wounded in the shooting had already left the scene in a private vehicle.
As officers headed toward the scene, they located a vehicle east of the area on Avenida Cesar E. Chavez. Inside, they found two female victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported both women to a nearby hospital.
One of the victims, identified as 26-year-old Michelle Donato, succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts. The second victim was last reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident began as a large fight outside an apartment on West Bluff Drive. Police believe the altercation, which involved several individuals, including both victims, escalated to gunfire when more people arrived at the scene. The confrontation turned chaotic as shots were fired, leaving the two women injured.
Detectives are working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. They are canvassing the neighborhood for evidence and interviewing witnesses to gain clarity on the number of shooters involved and what triggered the violence.
