The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 5:57 p.m. when a gray or black four-door sedan struck a 54-year-old woman crossing the street at the intersection of Western and Marquette avenues.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene, leaving the woman with fatal injuries. The victim, later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Tanja Annzionetta Safforld, succumbed to her wounds shortly after the collision.
Chicago police are actively investigating the incident and have released images of the car they believe was involved in the crash. Authorities are seeking the driver responsible for the hit-and-run and have asked the public for any information that could lead to identifying and locating the suspect.
