Francis collapsed on campus Tuesday morning shortly after completing a scheduled skills workout with the university’s coaching staff and trainers. He was found unresponsive and, despite immediate medical intervention, he did not recover.
University of Mobile President Dr. Charles Smith expressed deep sorrow in a statement, saying, “Our hearts are heavy as we process this tragedy.” Smith commended the quick and heroic actions of students and medical professionals, even as the community mourns Francis’ passing.
The cause of Francis’ death remains unknown. University spokesperson Kathy Dean confirmed that the athlete had recently undergone extensive health screenings, including evaluations of his heart and lungs, which revealed no underlying health concerns. The Rams recently celebrated an 81-49 victory over No. 20 Life University in Marietta, Georgia, improving their record to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. In that game, Francis contributed 10 points off the bench, showcasing his skills and potential as a player.
