Ryan Dwayne Kephart Obituary, Death – A man killed in a shooting in east Bakersfield on October 27, 2024, has been identified as 45-year-old Ryan Dwayne Kephart, a resident of Bakersfield. The Kern County coroner reported that Kephart was discovered with gunshot wounds around 4:47 p.m. near East Belle Terrace and Washington Street. The exact time of the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities made progress in the case when two suspects were arrested on October 31. Among those taken into custody were an 18-year-old, Lane Burnet, and a juvenile whose identity has not been disclosed.
Court records show that Burnet had a felony arraignment hearing on November 4, 2024. He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on January 29, 2025. The charges facing the child have not yet been revealed.
