Jaylan Powell Obituary, Death: Teen Killed in Gun Deal at Milwaukee Park Basketball Court
Jaylan Powell Obituary, Death – A criminal complaint has revealed that a deadly shooting on a basketball court at Milwaukee’s Carver Park on November 14 occurred during a gun trade. The victim, 18-year-old Jaylan Powell, was fatally shot twice in what prosecutors have described as a reckless homicide.
On November 15, at around 1:30 a.m., deputies discovered Powell’s lifeless body on the basketball court. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation, which later led to the filing of charges against 15-year-old Sharahn Patrick, who was charged with first-degree reckless homicide. The victim’s family confirmed his identity to local news outlet WISN 12 News.
Surveillance footage obtained by investigators shows crucial details about the incident. At approximately 8:22 p.m., a flash consistent with a muzzle flash is visible near the basketball court, where Powell’s body would later be found. Prior to the flash, a car is seen stopping near the court with its headlights on. Just 16 seconds after the flash, the car drives away, according to the criminal complaint.
Further investigation revealed a phone found near Powell’s body, which contained messages between Powell and someone using the Instagram name “Sir Rahn.” The messages indicated that the two were planning a meeting to trade guns at the park around the time of the shooting. The investigation also suggests that the gun trade may have led to the fatal confrontation.
On Tuesday, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of three teenagers in connection with the shooting. While Patrick has been charged with the crime, prosecutors stated that he has denied being at the scene and denied involvement in the shooting. The investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to Powell’s tragic death.
