Lacramioara Beldie Obituary, Death: Woman fatally stabbed in Jefferson Park; suspect later found dead identified.

Lacramioara Beldie Obituary, Death – A stabbing incident on Chicago’s Northwest Side Tuesday afternoon left one woman dead, the suspect also deceased, and an off-duty police detective injured while trying to intervene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 54-year-old Lacramioara Beldie and the suspect as 57-year-old Constantin Beldie, both residents of Chicago.

The incident unfolded around 2:20 p.m. on the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue in Jefferson Park. Witnesses described a chaotic scene where a man attacked a woman on the sidewalk. One neighbor, Thomas Desenfants, reported hearing screams followed by gunshots.

An off-duty detective from the Chicago Police Department’s Area Four Detective Division witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene. During the confrontation, the officer fired shots at the suspect but was grazed by a bullet in his leg. Despite his injuries, the officer managed to call for help. He was later transported to Lutheran General Hospital in fair condition, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Police later found the suspect deceased in a silver minivan parked nearby on the 5500 block of West Leland Avenue. Authorities believe the attack was targeted and not random, as surveillance footage reportedly shows the suspect waiting for the victim before the assault began.

Neighbors expressed shock and unease, particularly since the incident occurred in a residential area. Desenfants described the scene as “jarring,” noting that such violence so close to home is unsettling.

The Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) and the Investigative Response Team are reviewing the incident. As standard procedure, the officer involved has been placed on administrative duties for at least 30 days while the investigation continues.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact COPA at 312-746-7608 or through their online portal.
