Juan Garcia Obituary, Death: Victim identified in fatal crash on Alligator Alley
Juan Garcia Obituary, Death – A deadly crash occurred Tuesday morning on Alligator Alley, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to another. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the incident, which took place on northbound Interstate 75 near mile marker 72 at around 10:53 a.m.
According to the FHP report, a minivan struck two workers who were laying sod along the roadside. One of the workers, 39-year-old Juan Garcia, was killed on impact. The second worker, 43-year-old Ahmed Munoz, was injured by flying debris, though his injuries were reported to be minor.
The driver of the minivan, 37-year-old Darian Camacho, was identified as the person responsible for the crash. Camacho later explained to authorities that he had not been sleeping the night before the incident, claiming he was trying to escape from some issues in Miami. He stated that he had been fleeing from “potential attackers” and was driving in a state of exhaustion. According to Camacho, this was not an isolated event, as he regularly experienced the feeling of being watched, which contributed to his inability to rest.
Camacho, originally from Cuba, has never held a driver’s license in the United States. He claimed to have had no drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the crash, and there were no signs of impairment. According to the arrest report, Camacho admitted that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, which led to the collision with the workers.
In addition to the charges related to causing the fatal crash, Camacho is facing charges for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, as well as for not having a valid license plate on his vehicle. The case is still under investigation by the FHP.
