Elijah W. Hummel Obituary, Death: A 21-year-old man has died in a motorcycle crash in Groton.
Elijah W. Hummel Obituary, Death – Early Friday morning, a tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 21-year-old Elijah W. Hummel in Groton, Connecticut. Groton town police received a call about the incident around 12:45 a.m., with officers arriving at Fort Hill Road to find a downed motorcycle and Hummel lying nearby, critically injured. The police immediately summoned additional emergency responders and medical services to the scene.
The young rider was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where, despite efforts to save him, medical personnel ultimately pronounced him dead.
An initial investigation revealed that Hummel was riding a 2024 Kawasaki ZX-400 westbound along Fort Hill Road at high speed. At some point, he lost control of the bike, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a parked Jeep Cherokee in front of Midway Pizza. Fortunately, the Jeep was unoccupied at the time.
As a result of the crash, Fort Hill Road was temporarily closed between Depot and South roads while officers conducted an investigation. The road has since reopened, but police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Groton police have asked any witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
