Mark David Cook Obituary, Death: Driver dies in South Carolina crash involving tow truck, troopers report
Mark David Cook Obituary, Death – A Blacksburg, South Carolina, man was killed Wednesday in a crash after losing control of his motorcycle, an official said. Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler identified the man as Mark David Cook, 47.
Fowler said the crash happened about 1:10 p.m. as Cook was driving a Honda 2006 motorcycle on Hopewell Road. That is two miles south of Blacksburg, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers.
Cook lost control of the motorcycle, ran off the right side of the roadway and was ejected onto the pavement.
Troopers said Cook was heading east when he went off the road and overturned.
The motorcycle then slid back across the road under a 2012 rollback wrecker that was stopped on Hopewell Road, facing west, waiting to make a left turn, troopers said.
Cook was taken by ambulance to Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m., Fowler said.
He said a witness at the scene reported Cook was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.
Fowler said he was not wearing a helmet.
An autopsy will be performed to assist with the coroner’s investigation.
Fowler said Cook became Cherokee County’s 18th traffic fatality of 2024.
