Oscar Davila Obituary, Death; Man Identified in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Chicago’s Far South Side.

Oscar Davila Obituary, Death – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the identity of the man killed in a single-vehicle accident on San Antonio’s far South Side. Authorities confirmed the victim as 30-year-old Oscar Davila, who died from severe injuries sustained in the crash.

According to officials, the accident occurred on Monday, September 1, just before 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Moursund Boulevard, not far from East Ashley Road. Preliminary findings from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) indicate that Davila had been driving at a high rate of speed in a Dodge Durango shortly before losing control of the vehicle.

Investigators reported that the Durango veered off course, colliding with a guardrail and then striking a utility pole. The force of the impact pushed the vehicle into a drainage ditch, where it caught fire. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but Davila was trapped inside the burning SUV and unable to escape. Medical crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

The crash left behind significant wreckage, and traffic in the area was briefly affected as crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the roadway. The San Antonio Fire Department assisted police in managing the scene and containing the fire.

Investigators have not yet determined whether other factors—such as mechanical failure, distracted driving, or roadway conditions—played a role in the incident. However, SAPD noted that speed appears to have been a major contributing factor. The department has emphasized the dangers of excessive speed, particularly in residential and mixed-use areas like Moursund Boulevard, where curves, intersections, and utility fixtures increase crash risks.

No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash, and no additional injuries occurred. Authorities have not released further details about Davila, including whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Neighbors and passersby in the area expressed shock at the incident, noting that Moursund Boulevard has seen its share of speeding-related accidents. One nearby resident told local reporters that vehicles often travel faster than the posted limit, especially in the early morning and late at night when traffic is lighter.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Davila’s remains have been released to his family. Loved ones are expected to arrange funeral services in the coming days.

SAPD said its investigation remains ongoing. Officers are continuing to analyze the crash site, vehicle condition, and other possible contributing factors. They also plan to review nearby surveillance cameras to determine if the moments leading up to the crash were recorded.

This fatal accident adds to a troubling number of recent traffic deaths in the San Antonio area, where officials have continued urging drivers to exercise caution, reduce speed, and remain alert at all times. The tragedy underscores the potentially devastating consequences of high-speed driving and has renewed calls from local authorities for drivers to prioritize safety over haste.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the SAPD traffic investigations unit as the inquiry continues.
