CHP Officer David Torres explained that for reasons still unclear, the driver of the pickup failed to see Harker in the roadway. The truck hit the rear of the e-bike, throwing her forward and causing severe injuries.

Emergency crews quickly responded, and Harker was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Despite efforts from medical staff, she was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes after the crash. Torres said she suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” in the impact.
