Officials said the remains were identified as those of Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede. Her case had gained attention in the community after she disappeared in late July. The confirmation brings some closure to weeks of uncertainty for her family, though questions about how she died remain unanswered.

According to authorities, Naperville police were dispatched to the southwest corner of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve on August 14 after receiving reports that a body had been found in the prairie. When officers arrived, they located the remains and noted that the clothing on the body was consistent with what Abosede was last seen wearing before she vanished.

Investigators recalled that Abosede was last spotted on the morning of Wednesday, July 30. At around 9:20 a.m., surveillance video captured her walking in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street. In the footage, she was dressed in a long-sleeved black Adidas jacket, gray sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs. That description matched the clothing found on the body in the preserve, which immediately led investigators to believe it could be her.

The coroner’s office confirmed the identity through dental records, a common practice used in cases where remains are too deteriorated for visual recognition. This method allowed investigators to be certain that the remains belonged to Abosede.

At this time, the exact cause and manner of her death remain undetermined. The coroner has stated that further studies and examinations will be required before any conclusions can be made about how Abosede died. Toxicology testing and other forensic evaluations are expected to be part of the ongoing process.
