Mary Oldham Obituary, Death – Marysville resident Mary Oldham, 82, has been identified as the woman who tragically died in a traffic accident in Sutter County last week. The California Highway Patrol confirmed her identity on Friday following the fatal collision, which also left two other individuals injured.
The crash occurred on August 20 at approximately 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Live Oak Boulevard and Eager Road. CHP Yuba-Sutter officers responded promptly to reports of a serious traffic accident. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles with significant front-end damage: a Hyundai Elantra and a Honda Accord. The Hyundai was positioned in the northbound lane of Live Oak Boulevard, while the Honda came to rest in the dirt and gravel area on the southwest corner of the intersection.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Hyundai also experienced minor injuries but declined hospital transport. Mary Oldham, who was seated in the right front passenger seat of the Hyundai, was transported to the same hospital. Despite medical efforts, Oldham succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 4:56 p.m.
Initial investigations by the CHP indicate that the Honda was traveling southbound on Live Oak Boulevard, while the Hyundai was heading northbound toward the intersection with Eager Road. The Hyundai driver attempted a left turn to enter westbound Eager Road, directly into the path of the oncoming Honda. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing severe damage to both cars and resulting in the fatal injury to Oldham.
Officials have stated that preliminary findings do not indicate that drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash. The investigation continues to focus on the circumstances surrounding the left turn that led to the collision and the events immediately preceding the crash.
The loss of Mary Oldham has been met with sadness in the Marysville community, where she was known and loved. Her death highlights the risks posed at intersections, particularly when vehicles attempt maneuvers such as left turns across traffic. Accidents like this emphasize the importance of caution, patience, and adherence to traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies.
While the drivers involved survived with minor injuries, the fatality serves as a somber reminder of how quickly ordinary travel can turn deadly. Authorities continue to gather information, document the crash site, and review all available evidence to fully understand how the collision occurred.
The California Highway Patrol is urging anyone with additional information regarding the crash to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
