Tracey Harden Obituary, Death – On August 19, a tragic crash in Delaware claimed the life of a Lewes woman and left three others injured. Authorities with the Delaware State Police confirmed that the victim was 68-year-old Tracey Harden of Lewes, who passed away after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Harden had been a passenger in a Honda CRV that was involved in a collision with a Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer. The impact proved fatal for her, while others inside the Honda sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to police reports, the driver of the Honda was a 78-year-old man, also from Lewes, who was behind the wheel when the crash occurred. He was hospitalized but is expected to recover, as his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Two additional passengers were also in the vehicle: a 36-year-old woman from Lewes and a 37-year-old woman from Jersey City, New Jersey. The woman from Jersey City suffered critical injuries and remains in serious condition, while the other passenger was treated for less severe injuries.

Investigators explained that the crash happened around 1:55 p.m. near the intersection of Harts Road and John J. Williams Highway. The Honda CRV had been traveling south on Harts Road and came to a stop at the intersection. For reasons that remain under investigation, the driver attempted to make a left turn onto John J. Williams Highway. Unfortunately, the maneuver placed the Honda directly in the path of the westbound Freightliner tractor-trailer.

The Freightliner struck the driver’s side of the Honda, causing significant damage to the vehicle. The tractor-trailer was being operated by a 64-year-old man from Bowie, Maryland, who declined medical treatment at the scene and did not require transport to a hospital.

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision. Authorities have not released details on whether factors such as speed, visibility, or distraction may have played a role, but they noted that it remains an active case.
