Angelo Leivas Obituary, Death; Sheriff: 19-year-old Banning man ID’d as homicide victim, suspect arrested

Angelo Leivas Obituary, Death – Authorities in Riverside County say a deadly shooting in Moreno Valley has led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man suspected of killing another young man from Banning. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the victim as 19-year-old Angelo Leivas, also of Banning, who died after suffering gunshot wounds early Friday morning.

Deputies were dispatched just after 4 a.m. to the 13000 block of Day Street following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, officers found Leivas suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but despite efforts from medical staff, he later died from his injuries. His identity was released after officials notified his family.

Investigators quickly identified another Banning resident, 19-year-old Jacob Necochea, as the prime suspect in the shooting. According to authorities, Necochea was later located in Moreno Valley near the intersection of Sunnymead Avenue and Kitching Street. Deputies spotted his vehicle, which matched the description they had obtained during the investigation, and conducted a traffic stop.

Sgt. Alberto Loureiro of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department explained that Necochea was the sole occupant of the vehicle when deputies approached. He was detained without incident, then transported to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, where he was questioned before being placed under arrest. Jail records indicate that Necochea has been booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony murder. He is being held without bail as the case moves forward.

The sheriff’s department has not released details about a possible motive or what led up to the shooting. It remains unclear whether Leivas and Necochea knew each other before the deadly confrontation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview potential witnesses, and review the circumstances that culminated in the fatal shooting.

Authorities are asking the public for assistance as the investigation remains active. They have encouraged anyone with knowledge of the case to contact Investigator Hood of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or Investigator Vasquez at the Moreno Valley Station at (951) 486-6700. Callers may also choose to remain anonymous.

The incident has left the Banning community shaken, as both the victim and the suspect were just 19 years old. Leivas is being remembered by family and friends as a young man whose life was cut short far too soon. The arrest of Necochea has brought some closure in identifying a suspect, but many questions remain about what exactly transpired in the moments leading to the shooting.

As the legal process unfolds, investigators will continue to piece together evidence in hopes of presenting a clear account of the incident. Meanwhile, Leivas’s family is left grieving the sudden loss of their loved one, and the community awaits further updates from law enforcement.
